Plastic waste as a fossil alternative
GTM's process is exceptional in minimizing open burning, a widespread practice in rural areas, by effectively replacing fossil resources in fuel and plastic production with plastic waste.
"Open burning is the most common waste handling practice in Indonesia. Although this practice is strictly prohibited by law, it is estimated that 47% of the total plastic waste generated in Indonesia is openly burned". (source )2020 World Economic Forum.
Open burning plastic releases "forever chemicals," specifically PFAS which are known for their health risks. These chemicals persist for centuries and accumulate in the environment and human bodies.
In contrast, GTM's Pyrolysis process is outstanding. It operates in a zero-oxygen environment, employing thermal transformation to treat plastic without generating these harmful chemicals.

Since 2019, we've been working in Lombok, Indonesia, committed to community connection in parallel with cutting edge technology to bring to life a great revolution in how people deal with plastic waste.
It hasn’t always been straightforward, but our partnerships have brought us closer to uncovering pathways to significant success. Collaborating with numerous decentralized organizations requires flexibility and a diverse range of solutions.
Most importantly, we focus on transforming our clients' plastics into fuel, enabling them to decarbonize their operations. This process requires tracking and traceability, as well as the technical expertise to operate and manage quality control effectively.
E.g. Harvest Plastic hosts engaging village events where individuals can exchange plastic for lucky draw tickets—some offering cash prizes greater than a day's earnings. These events do more than just eliminate plastic; they foster joy, build community connections, and inspire meaningful action.
Generally plastic recycling is limited to PET and HDPE recycling, GTMs role is to increase the plastic collection range to "all plastics", broadening the scope of plastic material collected by communities. This gives participants and our clients more opportunities to divert more plastics from the environment.

GTMs Proprietary Sorting Systems are designed for community scale, decentralized recycling hubs, to maximize accessibility and employment. Our equipment is designed to minimize manual handling and energy consumption while ensuring feedstock quality and workplace safety.
Advanced Pyrolysis
GTM combines Advanced Pyrolysis with Distillation to break down mixed plastics and rubber into pure hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons can be used for new material manufacturing or as diesel, gasoline, kerosene and carbon black. Thus we avoid C02 emissions and toxic forever chemicals from open burning plastic.

Supported by collaborations with CSIRO, DFAT, IPPIN, BRIDA, and WHO, we aim to expand our capacity to process 1,440 tons per year by 2026. GTM has successfully established Indonesia's inaugural commercial-scale pyrolysis demonstration plant in Lombok. Laboratory tests by SGS and preliminary road tests confirm that the GEO Diesel produced by GTM matches the highest quality diesel available in Indonesia. The next step involves constructing a full-scale facility powered by landfill gas, in line with both UN sustainability goals and Indonesia's commitments to sustainability.
